MOUNTAIN BIKING: Rappahanock River Trail

← VA NORTH ANNA RIVER HART CORNER NEAR DOSWELL VA Single Tracks →

Description

I give this trail a 3 rating only because when I went it had a lot of wet leaves which made it difficult to really feel trail flow and rail the fun segments I noticed. The trail is along a beautiful section of the rocky banks of the Rappahanock River. Good elevation change with frequent logs rolls, and strange rocks to keep you alert. Very tightly wooded sections with sharp turns and few ladder bridge crosses next to river at beginning. That feeds into much more elevation changing with fun corners and well place logs. On a totally different spur to left off the beginning there is a wall ride and some rock drops 3 foot +, stream tunnel under I95, and an extremely fluid downhill vally section that can be done again and again. Next, to the river means mutiple creek crossings. Looks like great trail network with nice attractive views, as well as options for all riding disciplines.

Directions

Traveling South on Route 1 cross the Rappahanock River Bridge into Fredericksburg. Make right onto Fall Hill Ave. Follow until Rappahanock River is on your right. Start looking for small gravel lot on left just before small bridge over skinny canal. Park there, if possible. Across the the street from that lot is a gravel path along the skinny canal. Just keep going and up the Rappahanock and you will run into the network.
